Maintaining Your Septic System
- Start by locating your system. Go into your basement and find the direction that the sewer pipe runs through the wall.
- Next, uncover the manhole and then locate an inspection port. You may need to do some digging.
- Check your connections. You will want to turn on the water and flush your toilets to ensure the system is working correctly and the waste is going to the system.
- Now the sludge and scum will need to be measured. Your local inspector will do this with special equipment that is inserted into the inspection ports.
